A retrospective exhibition of the artist, which will be presented at the Museum of the City of Gdynia (Muzeum Miasta Gdyni) from 2 July to 30 October 2016. It is aimed to show the phenomenon of Marek Cecuła’s activity, with its international dimension, both universal and local as well as contemporary.

The exhibition "Marek Cecuła - Polish Design Polish Designers" is the third exhibition in the series on Polish design organized by the Museum of the City of Gdynia (Muzeum Miasta Gdyni). Its uniqueness lies in that so far it is the only event in Poland cyclically presenting, through monographic exhibitions, the achievements of Polish designers. Our aim is to create attractive exhibitions with high substantive potential of showing a comprehensive approach to the issues of contemporary design. We want to "break the spell" and simply talk about the seemingly inaccessible concepts such as industrial design, applied arts and their relationship with conceptual art. With our exhibition "Marek Cecuła - Polish Design Polish Designers" we want to present the character of a contemporary designer and show his work, to "snatch" him out of the studio and give "vote", in spite of the popular opinion about the tightness and closed-nature of the "designer" world. In our series we would like to present artists of different generations, in order to show a wide audience that a good, thoughtful design is something timeless, universal and represents the tremendous value of our cultural heritage.

At the exhibition we will show the different stages of Mark Cecuła’s career, an internationally recognized artist, potter, industrial designer, educator, lecturer and curator. We will present utilitarian and artistic ceramics, a medium with allows Mark Cecuła to comment reality. According to him, the most interesting things happen between art and design. The very change of context of everyday objects creates new values, it gives them new meanings. The works of Cecuła provoke the recipients and mobilize them to seek answers to the question: whether design can be art? They show that the boundary between art and design, between the concepts of usability and aesthetics are fluid and ambiguous. They also show how their discovery could be inspiring for the audience.
